IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME! And there is nothing I love more than cozy holiday decorations. Our now family of 4 (5 counting the dog) needed a few more stocking to hang by the fireplace with care. I found some GREAT fabrics – with stockings I think the more textures the better! Details below.

Skill level: Beginner

Materials:
  • Heavy weight fabric – the more heavy, the better it will keep shape when hung
  • Faux fur for trim
  • Thread
  • Ribbon
  • Wooden letters (optional)
  • Paper

All fabrics used can all be found on fabric.com

Telio Brushed Ponte Knit Coating Print Plaid Grey Citrus
Telio Addison Wool Plaid Red/Black
Telio Cozy Quilt Knit Grey
Velveteen Wine

How to Guide:

Make your template
  • Draw out your pattern on a piece of paper using the below image as a guide.
  • Be sure to leave room along the edges for the seam and an additional 4-5 inches at the top for the fold.

Use your template
  • Lay out your fabric on a hard smooth surface, right side up.
  • Fold right sides together.
  • Place and pin your template.

All the trimmings
  • Measure and cut your fur trim. Start with more length then needed. For width I did about 5".

Trim, trim
  • Starting at the top heel of your stocking, pin the fur along the seam line, leaving ½” of fur towards the top.
  • Pin along the top edge.

Ribbon
  • Place your ribbon in the seam and pin in place.

Furrrrrry
  • Hand sew the fur to the stocking starting with the side seam, attach the ribbon.
  • Then stitch along the top, ensuring that you fold the ½” of fur over the edge of the stocking as you go (like a rolling hem).
  • Then stitch back down the side seam and along the bottom.
  • Add your wood letter if desired.
