Another kijiji find! This side table was in rough shape - it looked like someone took a hammer to the top of it. BUT for $20 I thought it was worth trying to fix up. Turned out to be a great addition to our guest room. Click 'Read More' for the Before & After! Skill Level: Beginner Materials
Tips & tricks Sand! Sand! Sand! Try to get as sooth a surface as possible. Then use wood filler to fill in the dents. Then sand some more, fill some more and sand more and fill more and sand more. You get the picture. When you think you are ready for paint, go ahead, but if the damage is bad, you will likely need to go back to the sanding and filling, like I did. You can see in the next two photos that it is worth filling and sanding between coats of paint. This project was all about patience! I used Sherwin-Williams, Black Magic in Eggshell - it is a beautiful soft black finish. I did about 3 light coats of paint, first with a brush to get into all the nooks and crannies and then with a small foam roller.
