Baby Romper

This one is a new pattern and was a bit of an experiment, but I am happy with the results! Super comfy, easy to put on and great for summer. Plus it’s pretty cute. 

Skill Level: Intermediate sewer. 

Notions:
  • Light to medium weight fabric with at least 40% stretch.
  • Snaps
  • Button
  • Thread
  • Sewing pencil
  • Paper & pencil
 
How to Guide:
 
Pattern
  • Draw out your pattern on a piece of paper using the below images as a guide.

Cut it out
  • Lay your fabric out on a hard smooth surface right side up.
  • Fold right sides together.
  • Place and pin your pattern along the fold.
  • Cut it out.
  • Repeat for all pieces.
 
Front to back
  • Lay your front and back pieces out on a hard smooth surface right side up.
  • Place your liners on top, right side down.
  • Pin in place

Sew it
  • Sew along the front neckline and armpit lines.
  • Repeat for back.

Flip it
  • Flip right side out.
  • Press flat.

​Back to Front
  • Lay your back pieces out on a hard smooth surface right side up.
  • Place your front peice on top, right side down.
  • Line up the edges and pin in place.
  • Make sure to flip up the liner and pin the edge.

​Sew it
  • Sew together along the sides and inside the upside-down ‘U’.

​Close up the cuffs
  • Starting with one of your pant cuffs, fold in half, right sides together, along the length (longer side).
  • Pin in place.
  • Sew together along the edge.
  • Repeat for second cuff.

​Rolled cuffs
  • Starting with one of your pant cuffs, fold in half with the right side facing out.
  • You should now have a “closed circle” with a folded edge and a salvage edge.
  • Repeat for second cuff.
 
Pants to cuffs
  • Turn your pants right side out and give them a press.
  • Line up the seam of your cuffs with the inseam of your pants and pull the cuff up the pant leg so that the salvage edges are in line.
  • Pin together.
  • Sew along the salvage edge.
  • Repeat for second cuff.

Cut your strap
  • Lay your romper out on a hard smooth surface right side out.
  • Cut one of the back straps to match the length of the front straps.

Strapped
  • Turn the liner in the backside of your romper inside out.
  • Using the side with the straps that are same length, pull the front side strap trough the backside strap.
  • Make sure the right sides are together, front to front and back to back.
  • Pin in place.

  • Sew along the edge of your strap. Do not sew it closed!

Strappy strap
  • Turn the strap back to right side out.
  • Press flat.

Round it out
  • Turn the liner on the backside of your romper inside out again.
  • Draw a rounded edge on the longest strap. 

Sew it
  • Sew along the edge of your line.

Straighten it out
  • Turn the liner on the front side of your romper inside out.
  • Sew along the edge.

Flip it
  • Flip the liners right side out.
  • Press flat.

Button up
  • Sew on your snaps and buttons.
