Rustic Patio Table

We are backyard people. We LOVE our outdoor space, and soak it up any chance we get! We needed a table that could host more people, but still left movement for play. Cannot wait to share great food and even better wine around this table!
 
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Materials
  • 2x8 wood
  • 2x6 wood
  • 2x4 wood
  • Wood screws
  • Paint or stain
  • Wood finish (I used Tung Oil)
 
Tools
  • Electric drill
  • Electric saw
  • Electric sander
  • Pocket hole jig (can be found at Lowe’s)
  • Hole bit (1.5” or wider)
  • Rubber gloves
  • Paint brush
  • Cloth
 
How to Guide
 
This guide is based on a finished tabletop size of 86” long x 28” wide.
 
Cut it out
  • 2x4:
    • 2 pieces: 24”
    • 2 pieces: 32.5”
    • 4 pieces: 28” (angled ~10 degrees)
    • 2 pieces: 28” (angles ~45 degrees)
  • 2x6:
    • 1 piece: 75”
    • 1 piece: ~66.5”
  • 2x8:
    • 3 pieces: 68”
    • 1 piece: 28”

​Legs:
  • Screw together legs in “box” formation. Top piece is laying wide (2x4 - 24”) with the legs centered under (2x4 - 28” angled), bottom is laying flat across legs (2x4 - 32.5”).
  • Repeat for other side.

Bottom run
  • Lay the 2x6 - 75” piece down with the legs lined up on each side.
  • Screw in place.

Angles
  • Line up the 2 pieces cut at 45 degrees (2x4) along the bottom run and top.
  • Screw in place.

Top run
  • Lay the 2x6 - 66.5” piece down with the top of the legs lined up on each side (check measurement between top piece to ensure a snug fit).
  • Screw in place.

Sand it
  • Sand table frame smooth.

Pocket Holes
  • Using your pocket hole jig, drill 2 holes on each side of the 2x8 - 68” pieces.

Layout
  • Layout your tabletop pieces and screw the ends to the end pieces.
  • Place the middle piece and screw in place.

Drill holes (optional)
  • Drill hole in tabletop and bottom run for umbrella using hole bit.

Stain or paint
  • Stain or paint the base and tabletop.
  • Apply multiple coats.
  • Apply finish (I used Tung Oil).

Top to base
  • Screw tabletop to base.

  • Drill hole in top run using hole bit.
  • Touch up with paint or stain.
