Front Porch Reno

Our front porch needed a face lift - nothing like a little curb appeal! We replaced the stairs, railing and added the wraparound flower box. I still loved our blue front door with the grey and white, but we brightened it up by adding more white throughout. Here are the before and after photos:

Washroom Makeover for Under $200!

This washroom used to remind me of that children’s rhyme, in a dark, dark house, there was a dark, dark room - with no windows, tucked away in a corner on our main floor, it felt dark and small. It was also never the right shade of purple when we first painted it years ago, and it kind of got forgotten over time. Well, we finally gave it a fresh new look! it feels so much bigger, brighter and warmer. Best part, we did it for well under $200!

Here's the before and after:

All it took was some paint, a new light fixture and some updated décor. We are very happy with the results.

It’s bitter sweet that our baby is growing up, but it’s on to bigger and better things – like a new toddler room! I kept the “woodlands” theme from his nursery but took it up a notch and added some mountains. This is an easy project with a dramatic effect!

Hanging Herb Garden

4/18/2017

Last Spring we planted a herb garden in the corner of our yard, but when dinner time came around we always seemed to forgot about it. Out of sight, out of mind. We also live In Southern Alberta, and weather can be an issue (is it Summer? Is it Winter? No one knows). This year we decided to take the garden inside to make it more accessible and easy to care for. Also, to save counter space, we hung it in our windowsill. It was easy and turned out great!

We recently updated the furniture in our bonus room and realized we needed some storage along with a spot for our TV. We had a large empty wall and decided to fill it up and make use of the space with shelves. It was a simple project and really finished the room nicely!

Banded Blackout Curtains

7/17/2016

I have learned that babies like to sleep in dark rooms – no, not just dark, pitch black, without even a sliver of light. For a while we had a sheet up over the window, (functional yes, stylish no) but I really like natural light when baby is not sleeping (I guess not so functional after all). Thus, the blackout curtain was a must.

Kitchen Renovations

8/1/2015

Our house was built in the early 1990’s so while it has a great layout, it needs some updating. This is our first home and we have put a lot of love into it. We enjoy entertaining and the kitchen is always where people seem to gather. While it was functional, it was also bit of an eyesore. So we wanted to do a small (AKA cheap) reno to give it back some life.

We did four main things:
  1. Repainted the cabinets and added new hardware
  2. Extended our existing island
  3. Replaced the old laminate countertops with new Butcher Block ones
  4. Updated the lighting

I have detailed steps for 1, 2 and 3 in the guide.
